Without a doubt, this was one of the greatest marathons ever run. So many contenders in the last 6 miles.

2:09 in 1987 olympic was insane, considering 44 years later we only managed to run 1 minute faster, by the great Kipchoge.

Charles Spedding is a very handsome runner. It is amazing that John Treacy and Charlie Spedding could not stay with the pace.

I still remember it was around 9:00am morning in Japan live. There was a summer break, so every kid watched the race and you can’t imagine how shocking for the kids, for the nation really, to see Seko slowing down. We never saw him losing until this race. We strongly believed he would be the one in the center on the podium.
He later said he overtrained himself and had blood in his urines… Well still torturous trainings were standard at the time, at least in Japan I guess. Sad he and his coach ruined the huge opportunity to be an Olympic champion.

Actually hearing the commercial break conversations is actually more entertaining.
