Mike Adamle's breathing a sigh of relief right now.

The AWA was always a promotion that kinda was just on the periphery of my awareness as I grew up as a wrestling fan in the mid to late 80s. I'd read stuff about them in Pro Wrestling Illustrated and the other "Apter mags" but that was about it really. I vaguely remember them showing up on ESPN for a little while, too, but I think that was when they were pretty much on their last legs.

The event was held at Matthews Arena, which is now owned by Northeastern University.

Matthews Arena was long known as Boston Arena and was built in 1910, and rebuilt after a 1918 fire.

It was home of the NHL's Boston Bruins from the team's founding in 1924 until the Boston Garden was completed in 1928.

Seeing hawk sell is so alien to me. I can barely remember 4 matches where he actually sells

Besides producing this wrestling show to benefit MDA, WCVB would also carry the MDA telethon for many years.

Surprised Backlund got so little love in Boston as a former wwf champ. Slaughter was the star.
