It’s rare when all the actors in a film are great in their roles. Every actor showed up and delivered a fine performance. Lee J. Cobb and Henry Fonda were superb.
But even the smaller parts were well acted. Casting was terrific.

One of the things that surprised me most was the Oscar nomination that it received; it wasn’t the usual glitzy technicolor glamour piece. It was real, profound and honest. Even though I was only 12 when I saw it in 1957, I knew how special it was and knew it would last,at least in my mind.

Incidentally all the actors received equal salaries.

It was the quality of the actors that made this film a cult classic.
No actors of today could pull this off, the talent simply isn`t there.

Interestingly, some 25 years later? Lumet directed another really impressive courtroom drama. 'The Verdict'. Starring Paul Neuman along with 12 Angry Men alumni Jack Warden. And Edward Binns, also from 12 Angry Men, in a small but expertly performed part. ALL the actors in 12 Angry Men went on to successful careers in movies, theater and TV. Although Joseph Sweeney died just 7 years after 12 Angry Men. His earlier work on stage was quite prolific. And while some people may not be as familiar with George Voskovec's later career as the other cast members? He DID appear in a number of movies and television episodes. And wrote the lyrics to about 300 popular songs between acting gigs.

Watch the opening scene where the judge gives the jury instructions.

As the camera pans the jury, each character gives a microcosm of his character, e.g., Jack Warden looks at his watch, 'he has tickets burning in his pocket'

Excellent and worthwhile, but impaired by the obvious AI narration.

The brilliant cast believed in the script and turned what could have been a stage - bound bore into one of the greatest films ever made.

Edward Binns, Juror 6, was superb. He portrays himself as just a working stiff who lets others, like his foreman on the job, do the "supposing." However, he's just as sharp as all the others, though he has little formal education. When Juror 8 (Fonda) asks him what if they send an innocent man to the electric chair, he considers this seriously, but replies, what if we acquit him and it turns out he did it? He also confronts perpetually-angry Juror 3 (Lee J. Cobb) when the latter rudely interrupts the elderly Juror 9 (Joseph Sweeney), telling him to let the old man speak or "I'll lay you out."
