  An interesting addition here is that it may be good to remember that, to the best of our knowledge, autism and neurodivergence are genetic, and often come with comorbid conditions such as EDS, POTS and other conditions that can cause chronic pain. So chances are, the correlation we’re seeing here could easily be that pain itself, and the effects of pregnancy on exacerbating that pain in neurodivergent bodies, not Tylenol, which is being used to treat and manage that pain. Truly, correlation does NOT equal causation!

  hearing him talking about women “toughing it out” literally brings me pain because he will never and has never experienced childbirth and pregnancy and the absolute excruciating pain that comes with it

  It’s insane that a president can have a press conference to spread medical misinformation based on what he believes and feels. And people are just okay with that.

  For those who missed the research part:<br>The study in Sweden looked at 2.5 million kids, 186k of which were exposed to acetaminophen. First they saw a 5-7% increase in autism. But the women who take acetaminophen are more likely to have autism themselves (and autistic people are more likely to suffer from chronic pain, EDS, POTS, etc) and autism is believed to be mostly genetic. <br>Once they compared siblings, one exposed to acetaminophen and one not there was no correlation. Because it isn’t the tylenol, it’s about recognizing what people are most likley to use tylenol and seeing the genetic factor.

  I’m 23 weeks and 4 days pregnant and I have so many family members who have texted me and said “I watched the news don’t take Tylenol” and I told my husband that only way that I stop taking something when I need it is when my doctor tells me to.

  Thank you for this. Being someone who got diagnosed with autism at 17, it’s not just something I magically gained by taking medicine. There were signs since early childhood. But no action was taken to diagnose or even understand my differences. It disgusts me to know these politicians think they know how to “cure” what they think is a disease, something they don’t even struggle with themselves. The same goes with Autism Speaks, an organization that actively demonizes us instead of helps us. We are not diseased. We are not something to be cured. Their ignorance and apathy is what needs to be cured instead.
