My dad was a loader on a 5 inch gun on destroyer Maury (DD-401), escorting the carrier Enterprise at Midway. He was 17 years old.

I like being reminded of "airplane mechanics, armorers, and flight deck crews" that are often overlooked. Another good production watched from New Hampshire, USA.

Absolutely gripping! Seeing Midway through the Japanese perspective really shows how fragile even the strongest fleets can be when intelligence and timing fail. Those five minutes didn’t just sink carriers they changed the entire Pacific War. Incredible research and storytelling

In the aftermath of the Midway debalcle many officers were posted to far away from Japan away from press. Family members were bluntly told to stop asking questions about were the missing carriers had gone.

17:03 — “He apologized for the defeat, urged them to survive and rebuild a stronger navy.” This moment with Admiral Yamaguchi really stood out to me because, even in a devastating defeat, he was thinking about the future and the people who might rebuild after him. The Battle of Midway shows how quickly confidence can turn into catastrophe when intelligence and adaptability are ignored. What lesson from Midway do you think is most relevant for leaders today?

At 64 now i think back to my childhood realizing all my dads friends were WWII or KOREAN WAR Vets. We grew up with real heroes.

If you want to watch both perspectives Japan and US, then find the Montemayor 3-part series for both.
It is the best series I've watched for the battle of Midway because each series is only one country perspective during this situation.
Montemayor videos are beyond excellent.

a very clear example of how systemic failures can override any one individual skills and knowledge that could make a difference. inflexibility was their weakness.
the new 2019 midway movie was really historically accurate for both sides of the story. worth a watch. while a terrible movie in itself, just treat it as a documentary and it's much better.

Really well done. Ignore the hate in the comments and comparisons to other treatments of Midway. Yours is well researched and very well narrated. Thank you for creating it.

This video emphasizes the loss of personnel, which of course was a huge loss, but what is also significant is that the US could outbuild Japan, so that by the time Japan constructed more carriers, the US would have built many more carriers. The material loss to Japan was something they could never recover from.
