The odd thing is that while Blackfyre was considered a symbol of legitimacy for Targaryen kings for Faegon it would almost be a symbol of illegitimacy. Everyone knows the Blackfyres had Blackfyre, so if Faegon shows up claiming to be Rhaegar’s son but carrying a sword everyone knows the Blackfyres had people will conclude he must have something to do with the Blackfyres since he has it.

I love the idea that the Golden Company is essentially pulling off a heist, by sneaking a Blackfyre onto the throne and then one day they'll give the "Targaryen" monarch his sword back and they'll have a Blackfyre on the Throne WITH the Blackfyre sword.

I've always entertained the idea that Blackfyre is still secretly in the possession of the Golden Company, likely hidden at the bottom of their company pay chest. I can't point to any hard evidence for this, but there are a couple of things in the text that might hint at it. First there's the obvious fact that it would make reasonable sense for a sword that Aegor Rivers possessed to remain after his death with the sellsword company he'd found specifically for the mission which the sword represents. I also find it interesting that there's a specific mention that Jon Connington's "crime" which got him expelled from the Golden Company was attempting to steal from the company pay chest. That's an interestingly specific detail, and one which was directly part of fabricating the story of his supposed ignominious death so that he could raise Young Griff in secret. Furthermore, this idea might be directly hinted at with the Golden Company's battle cry of "beneath the gold, the bitter steel". Ostensibly, the battle cry refers to Bittersteel's skull being dipped in gold and carried with them, but it could also hint at the "bitter steel" of the exiled sword Blackfyre being hidden beneath the literal gold in the company pay chest.

I think it's worth pointing out that Varys is a mummer, so IMO, even if Aegon is legitimate, he's still "the mummer's dragon."
