In Thailand there's a voodoo/gore/horror film genre. It's usually some kind of monk casting the voodoo spell. The victims frequently vomit either another living thing or inanimate objects like razors or nails or something too big to pass the oesophagus, just something that will cause death after vomiting. And the hair pin in the bladder sounds just like that.
