As a Dane, a lot of my friends who are foreigners who’ve lived here for like ten years also don’t know how to pronounce the soft D properly.

A little bit of history on the soft D and some of the other danish sounds. You are not the only one who considered them a nightmare, they routinely gave away german spies, who had been specially trained in danish.

The thing about the danish soft D is you kind of not say it and you’ll just speak danish with a Sønderjyllands accent

Norwegian and German speaker here, ø is usually pronounced lower than ö, so while they're technically the same sound they don't sound the same
