That music is far more whimsical or childlike than sad or depressing.

I like to think that the Friendly Animals aren't directly connected to Ozma, but as Gaian spirits, they don't like Ozma being here because it doesn't belong. The fact that we see the message about "Spiritual power increases your reach." when fighting Ozma after doing the sidequest means the spirits are buffing us, rather than making Ozma somehow fly lower. They're boosting us to enable us to fight it, and then giving Ozma a debuff to remove its Shadow Absorb. Looking at it this way means the animals don't need to be directly related to Ozma.

Also Chocobo Hot & Cold is top tier minigaming. I spent so many hours of my life as a young teen playing it in order to get *everything*.

My theory that is that Ozma is an eidolon created by the memory/experience of witnessing the fusion attempt between Terra and Gaia. It looks like two globes smashed together, each side spinning opposite the other, which could indicate a difference in nature, or incompatability. The only one likely to witness this would have been someone from the Terran ship, which is why Ozma would have been otherworldly, it was an eidolon created by the memories of a Terran/Garland. And if Ozma was manifested in an area where the merging that inspired its physical form was most evident, like Oeilvert, it may have been able to obtain the pumice from there. Considering an Ark prototype existed there, I dont think its that far fetched to think they may have kept the source of the original's power close at hand, which could then have ended up inside of Ozma, perhaps as a physical anchor for its manifestation since the pumice would already have eidolon level potential.

I’m thinking Ozma is a representation of both planets trying and failing to fuse.

39:00 I do think the connection to FF1 is intended, actually: "Nine is the last number, and also the first." This is Final Fantasy 9. When I heard this line in the puzzle explanation, I immediately assumed at some point that FF1 would be involved. FF1's antagonist is also named Garland - and this was the first time the Garland archetype was reused.

I think FF9 Terra was, in fact, the world of the original Final Fantasy game, which, much like the real world, developed technology and became obsessed with it. FF9 Garland is thus literally based on FF1 Garland - we are very aware that Terra is almost as well known for creating facsimiles of ancient myths as for its obsession with technology. Maybe, as the crystal began to die, Terra saw magic as no longer the answer to the problems of life. This could be why Terra is incompatible with Gaia despite having similar magic: Terra's memories, of being "betrayed" by magic, then growing to replace it with technology, cannot be reconciled with Gaia's memories, which have never experienced this degree of trauma.

Imagine being summoned with a stone people use to scrub and exfoliate their dry skin with.

A lot of this syncs up but also keep in mind FF9 was specifically made to go back to its fantasy roots and pay homage to all the original non-3D games that came before it. 43:26

My headcannon is Ozma is 2 eidolons fighting each other eternally until they become one but rotates opposite each other. One is from Gaia and one is from Terra

This is one of the best explanations for FF9's vague lore I've ever heard. Now just give us some in depth lore for Necron and I'll be over the moon

12 year old me had no idea about the "Friends" system. and defeated him with a level 88 party, using only ranged attacks (Shock being the main one) I remember at the end using Amaranth to just throw stuff at him. I ran out of grenades, so the killing blow was dealt by throwing a dead pepper XD
