Thanks a lot for yet another excellent video. I think that it is essential to note that the Salton Sea had been dry only for about 3 centuries before the 1905 flood. Without the former lake, the whole valley would be a lot less fertile and would suffer less damage from agriculture. This puts some perspective on the quarter billion dollars environmental plan: the value is for the humans supporting local intensive agriculture. The alternative would be regulating agriculture, and that's a political suicide.

Made a stop here before, the smell is very strong. Everywhere you step is just the crunch of fish and animal bones. The "shore" is just skeletons. Was cool to see but sad at the same time.

How refreshing to see a content creator who isn't just going through the motions or relying solely on AI to do all the heavy lifting. I've watched a handful of mini documentaries on the Salton Sea and this was one of the best. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

I remember I first moved to socal from Florida and I saw water on the map. Got up early with my friends and was super disappointed.

I'm a truck driver and i pass by there very frequently. I have heard stories of how it was made and how popular it was back then and how it died out. But thanks to you and this video, I now know more than just the stories. Thanks.

Been there once in the 80s, when I was a kid...in those days ppl were still fishing there. I asked my dad years later why we never went back and he told me it wasnt good for fishing anymore...

Perhaps the pupfish is thriving because this region had flooded in the past, and they have ancestors that were adapted for the high salinity in the region.

We’re doing the same with Utah’s Salt Lake. We KNOW how dangerous it is to mess around with nature, but we just keep doing it. Money and politics get involved. By the time the investors pull out their money and escape with billions, the damage has already been done.

It’s like we’re just ignoring the problem, and telling ourselves “we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it” knowing full well, that bridge is collapsing and won’t be there at all when we get to it.

We keep being taught these lessons, but when will we actually learn?

If you come to this place in the summer, the smell that you will encounter will never leave your nose memory.

The salton sea is 236 feet below sea level. A gravity pipeline could bring in all the sea water we want, the lake level could be scientifically controlled to the inch, and the pipeline could generate some amount of hydroelectric power.

I remember during the early 1980s, our family visited the place. It was very hot and everyone fished for huge tilapias 🐟. There were near free campsite areas. But lack of trees and the heat made it irritatible for me. We ate nicely on the large spicy fish stew
