I know a man by the name of Rertrand Bussel who posited an interesting question for modern biology: can you have a Toaster Fish which toastes every toaster fish without it getting toasted itself?

Fifteen minutes to set up a groanworthy "real numbers are fishy" pun. I love mathematicians' humour.

Wildberger's work is best viewed as an alternative foundation or research program, not as a demonstrated replacement for classical mathematics. No comparable body of results has been produced that matches the breadth and power of mathematics built on the real numbers.

R is dead. R remains dead. And we have killed it.

I'm still skeptical. However, all of these videos motivated me to get books and articles on the Real numbers. Thanks for the videos.

Mathematics must be founded in the real world. If nothing existed, there would be nothing to count, and counting things is surely the beginning of mathematics.

    That was amusing. Thanks!

There is an interesting group of researchers in the history and foundations of science and mathematics at Utrecht University, The Netherlands (where I got my MSc in physics). You may find more open minds there then in the mathematics community proper.

Good article, I t brought me back memories when I first encountered number Pi in school, and how I was a bit uncomfortable with this strange object in the midst of familiar decimals, it became a strange burden you had to carry around in the calculations, but eventually I got used to it.

Thoroughly enjoyed being subjected to hearing you read your paper, njwildberger. It's one thing for some mathematics to be quite abstract. It is wholly another to be completely made up and undefined.

    Times change.
Nowadays most people would prefer dirt cheap global video calls, internet banking and self-driving cars to Cantor's paradise.

You should make a christmas themed version of this reading. Since it's more light hearted it would be fitting and I think the fans would appreciate the joke. No change to the reading, just a santa outfit (or just the hat) and a perhaps a boom box with some jingle bells or something... and just in case you think i'm trolling - i'm not a member of your party but I am a fan and truely appreciate the videos.
