Us poor folks learned how to install our own toilets a long time ago, among many other home repairs.

That first couple couldn't afford a house. They didn't have any liquid assets.

I learned how to install a new toilet from a YouTube video. Super easy! Where there’s a will there’s a way!

Even if you can afford homeownership, the minute you get slightly ahead, the mortgage company will send you an escrow deficiency notice for increased taxes/insurance or your water heater takes a dump. It’s a never ending cycle.

I would argue that if he had to pull $10k from his 401k just to make the down payment, they really couldn't afford to make the purchase to begin with.

Yeah. Within the next 2 years I’ll need to replace my roof, replace the carpet, finish a basement room, and restore the backyard. <br>I love my house but it can have periods of heavy expense.

A majority of the population does not know how to handle finances. When times are tough, it really shows. People who are smart financially are ready for the tough times and get through them much easier than those who are not.

A "regular home" in California is $1M, that's what people often don't get.

I bought a regular tent to live down by the river.... and I still paid too much! 🤣

Doesn't matter if the 1st couple only paid $260k for their house. It was still too much for them.

Can't understand how taking out huge student loans became normalized.
