Omega-6/3 Ratio: Before or after you watch/listen to this conversation, see today's Newsletter about Omega-6/3 ratio. It covers a study Dr Nic V @physionic shared midway through this interview. It was a great find on his part and deserved more attention. So, here: https://staycuriousmetabolism.substack.com/p/how-we-got-omega-fat-wrong-this-will?r=40ekz2

This is the duo I've been wanting to see!!! Two of my most respected educators and scientists who have the skills to effectively communicate the nuance of the science in social media (with HONESTY and TRANSPARENCY). It is so important to understand that many YouTubers who have MDs and PhDs may know the context of their argument but push the envelope and "lean in" on one side versus the other. This creates an imbalanced counterculture that make social media unpalatable and difficult to learn from.

46:50 Wise words.

I was guilty of assuming the benefits I saw on a carnivore diet were generally applicable. I convinced someone very close to me to try it which, along with some other factors, contributed to a severe mental health crisis. I'm still struggling to forgive myself for this.

Anyone who claims something with absolute certainty, especially in science, should be treated with deep suspicion.

Stay curious, but also stay humble.

The biggest change for me and not sure if its the low carb or dropping seed oils is my ability after 57 years of not being able to tolerate the sun or tan, rather just turning lobster red is that in the last 4 years I have tanned and can tolerate quite long exposure to the sun. Just pushed it to the max this holiday and friends remark on how tanned I am. Why after switching does my body make melanin after years of not doing so?
Brilliant talk guys, enjoyed this immensly.

I'm glad to see two of my favorite creators in the health space in the same video discussing important topics in a non-biased way as always. Thanks to both of you gents for putting this together.

I quit all seed oils at the age of 71. Prior to quitting my knees were very painful. For over a decade I used mobility scooters in large grocery stores. After quitting pains went away. Within three months I was walking five miles without pain. Nothing could make me go back to the way I was.

I don't generally watch interviews because I hate pontificating. I really enjoyed your interview. Both of you are just wonderful examples of how we should discuss the variables that we haven't sufficient data to make a call on yet. You raised the bar -- and it took the two of you to do it.

I'm not unconditionally against seed oils. The issue I have with them is how quality is essentially not reasonable to confirm at the consumer level. Plastic containers and fats don't mix, so that's a start, but most seed oils are oxidized by the time it's on the shelves.

I think it'd be significantly interesting to see if it's possible to meaningfully quality control seed oils versus, for example, walnut oil. Seed oils are also UV-vulnerable, so it'd be worthwhile to make sure to use protective containers. Similarly, given the concerns from people, it'd be interesting to investigate the cooking behavior of various oils including animal fats, the degree of oxidation in the final cooked products, and how the presence of harmful compounds changes based on the various qualities and process sources of each oil.

I just think from the standpoint of a consumer I'm extremely unlikely to fail to get sufficient omega 6, and I essentially don't trust the processing of seed oils in off the shelf products as the food environment is today in the US.
