My drumming hero from the age of 14, which was 1970. I hope that I pass away before he does, I shall be in bits if he goes before me!

I still like his early Deep Purple size kit the best, one tom over the bass drum and two floor toms.

Such a gentleman. His own unique voice in a sea of clones. The fact he still tours and plays like he’s 30 to this day is so inspirational.

When I saw Deep Purple on California jam playing burn I was 14 Years old I was immediately blown away and my attention went straight to Ian Paice right then and there I knew that long hair and hard rock was just as serious as jazz and Buddy Rich he gave instant high-end credibility to hard Rock then as a I got older I noticed that most of the drummers weren't nearly as great as Ian Paice.

Ian is the goat! All those old British players are legends but to me Mr. Paice was the initial modern metal drummer because of his speed, technique and ingenuity.<br>Everybody in Deep Purple was (is) insanely talented and Made In Japan is still one of the best live albums ever recorded because of the sound and the musicianship displayed on it. Whatever combination of drugs they were on, it worked!
