  One of the most dangerous assumptions in the U.S. is the belief that “it can’t happen here.” Too many people still think democratic backsliding is impossible — even as this administration, Trump included, pushes relentlessly toward its goals of self‑enrichment and unchecked power. Call it whatever you want, but one thing is clear: this is an administration governed by authoritarian instincts, not democratic restraint.

  I live in a small Midwestern town of around 23K people, and speaking out here has consequences. Speaking out and protesting gets threats and doxxing, but many of us (mostly seniors) still take a stand. We have to for those who come after.
