  Now, you have a very common misunderstanding. Matches themselves are not covered in red phosphorus. It&apos;s the ignition strip on the boxes that have the red phosphorus. The matches themselves are made of potassium chlorate, Antimony trisulfide, and glue. So you could have saved yourself a ton of work.

  The match head is actually potassium chlorate and some binder. The scraping side of the box is red phosphorus. Also, you would have saved a ton of time using some kind of pliers to just crush the heads!

  I&apos;ve done this before. Just soak the matches in water and then the red phosphor will slough off. &nbsp;You can even apply it to the surface of your matchstick that way since there&apos;s already a binder in it. Haha. I winced when I saw you scrape off all of those phosphor.
