If I remeber correctly. There is an actuall period in Polynesian history where they stopped sailing for 800 years ish, and no one knows why.

fun fact! the stories Maui sings about in You're Wlecome are based on actual things Maui did in Polynesian Mythology! funnily tho, he didn't just lasso the sun. he pulled it down and beat the breaks off of it until it agreed to move slower. and binus fact Maui did NOT steal the heart of Te Fiti (or Papatouanuku). closest thing he did to that was when he tried to give humans immortality by stealing the heart of the goddess of death by crawling into her via her... lower area. however Maui was not successful and was crushed to death by a pair of teeth she just has in there (all this is from TheMythologyGuy check him out he's rly cool!)
fun thing to think about! : )

I once challenged myself to listen to a 1 hour loop of You're Welcome. I was able to complete it but lost some sanity. A week later I tried a 10 hour loop and couldn't make it past 20 minutes lol

I still hold Coco as my #1 animated musical film, but Moana is a close second. (No sequels nor live-action remakes needed.)

25:43 I think it is supposed to be a plantain, a wild banana still popular in South America and Polynesia.

I love Moana's development, but Maui's personal growth was amazing. From being such a vain, self-absorbed, borderline narcissistic demigod to becoming a kind-hearted and loving friend and mentor is awesome, plus hearing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson sing is pretty damn badass. I love how they cast Nicole Scherzinger (lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls) as Moana's mother and Boba Fett himself Temuera Morrison as her father.

Loooove this movie - it was so strange hearing New Zealand actors, whose voices I've grown up listening to on TV, in a Disney film - but so cool! Stoked you enjoyed it.
