I absolutely had to downsize my collection. I had been collecting since the early 1970’s as a second grader and by the early 2020’s had way more comics than I could safely store.

Thankfully, many of my most loved comics have been reprinted on good paper, in nice hardcover editions, etc. over the years.

It was a major chore keeping my comics safe, in climate safe for storage, free of bugs, etc. Plus it was stressful having to safely move them whenever I moved apartments and when I bought my house.

I ended up keeping my hardcovers, as well other collected editions and also kept those comics that would never be reprinted (due to rights issues, lack of interest from publishers etc).

The bulk of my comics collection, I traded with a couple of my favorite comic book artists in return for original artwork (some commissions, original comics pages etc). Artwork from my favorite comic artists that now hangs on my walls and that I never could have afforded otherwise. I’m happy with how it worked out.

Great advice! Understanding what you want to sell/move and why is fundamental to deciding on the best way to do it. And being realistic about monetary gain. Awesome work, Raph. ❤

Nice to see a great representative of our community - thoughtful and well-spoken!
I am a long-time collector and thus built positive feedback on eBay mostly as a buyer- but now that I am selling as well, my buyer feedback serves as a base number for my selling. I am not in a hurry to sell so have realized very solid results on fixed price books. I list with the best fixed price, but this is generally more than I realize through other channels. So, patience is critical to realizing high prices, if you have that luxury.

Great episode and coincidentally timed with my sorting through my collection this very weekend! I'm purging some runs of books I only kept for completion purposes. My office needs more room and I donate comics to libraries (and get receipts).

It’s important to have an endgame. I kept six DC silver age comics for sentimental reasons.
Sold off everything else.
I replaced my favourite titles in Omnibus and DC Finest format.
They will be with me to the end. I would love to pass them on to someone who will appreciate my passion!
