Where I live, the fact that the water does not cause violent dysentery is entirely due to modern technology; if that shuts off, i’d be back to operating a home made distiller on a wood fire for <b>all</b> my drinking water. <br>Water is precious.

Whoever cut the piping probably thought it was abandoned, but If I was one of the homeowners, after you fix it, I'd be putting trail cameras around it in case some Richard-Head messes with it again.

Old mountain spring wells are amazing. The fact that there isn't a date scribed on likely means it either was worn away over time or was made before the regulations existed.
