40:30 I remember those sirens from when I was growing up. I lived on the northernmost tip of Tornado Alley, and they still test the sirens regularly. They started out as air raid sirens, especially in places like England during WWII, but in America we mostly refer to them as tornado sirens. They updated them a while back and they don't sound quite like that anymore, but there's nothing quite like the sound of the original ones to make you start looking for the basement. I've never seen one personally, but they have touched down near where I lived on a few occasions.

In an actual tornado, they don't wait until a giant EF-5 is about to hit; they sound them as soon as a tornado warning is issued in your area. The way they do it in the game is basically a mechanic to let the players know that they're almost out of time.

One more thing: the funnel doesn't quite drop down like these; you'll see a cloud of dust and debris on the ground before the funnel reaches down to meet it. Sort of like how lightning starts at the ground. Again, the way they do it in the game is probably more fair to the players, giving them a warning that the tornado is spawning over there..

 41:36
So, in this game. The sirens rung twice:
Siren 1 rung for tornado warning (which is gonna rung when we start the session). Even though it doesn't apply to RL but so far its good for knowledge.
Siren 2, it's signalling for tornado emergency (In this game, it applying as Final tornado. You're ran out of time, and the tornado is unsurvivable no matter where you stand or go.)

I have a very clear memory of sitting outside our basement door with my grandfather and watching a tornado tear through a forest right behind our house

Yo love the accent. Plus, the model is amazing, and the color scheme is nice. The nados is very common like that here in Oklahoma during nader season.

32:48 For the radio stuff, people normally use a naming convention (aka callsign) that was already agreed upon (by organization). You may use your initials like Captain Mavie = Charlie Mike. Callsigns are meant to hide the identity of people because anyone could tune to their frequency channel. Numbers are normally used by team members according to rank. "Alpha team" leader = Alpha-1; "Alpha team" co-leader = Alpha-2. That's the general idea. :)

In Smii7y's context: He just gave them silly names because he's a silly guy :3

In military context: Soldiers inherit "radio names" (callsigns) upon joining a squad. If the original leader of a squad becomes missing, killed, or replaced, co-leader assumes leader position so now he's Alpha-1.
