Author, journalist, podcaster, and fact presenter. Easily helped me understand what led up to the 1929 stock market crash and how the depression could’ve been avoided. The world needs more honest informers like Andrew. Subscribed.

As a former banker and fiduciary for over 2 decades, I appreciate this interview. When history repeats itself.

I have taught college econ since 1981 and was an economist for the Minneapolis Fed for all of the 1990s. This is really excellent and I urge people to share with all their friends, colleagues and family. One point I would make. At about 14:40 minutes in, Sorkin refers to people in Hoovervilles and talks about people having taken on debt. I don't think he means it, but the people in Hoovervilles were not families that had taken on debt to speculate in stocks. They were people who had worked for companies owned by stock speculators big and small. When out of control speculation blew up the stock market, companies failed and millions of people who had worked like dogs for those companies were thrown into deprivation, real starvation in many cases, through no fault of their own.

Insightful, thoughful book. Reaffirms that history forgotten repeats itself. Good point too that private sources of debt makes it hard to know just how much debt is financing our economy.

I suppose it could be said that the camps of unhoused people we see today are pretty much the same as Hoovervilles ... and at the moment I expect that circumstance to increase going forward as average people are priced out of housing and health care.

Much better interviewer than the Pod Save America guy. That guy was interrogating Sorkin.
