This is such an earnest and beautiful take. Not consuming just to consume or decluttering so much you forget where you came from. Just critically examining what you love and finding out how much certain books mean or meant to you. Love your energy - I subscribed :)

Your enthusiasm for books shines through so much!!
I love what you said about keeping your bookish history. I am not a sentimental person and can easily get rid of stuff that doesn't serve a purpose anymore but I have found myself getting rid of books that, years later, I wanted to revisit just as part of my history as a reader. I want to be more critical of my unhauling impulses this year and I think viewing books as part of my history is going to help

You are definitely right that it is like weeding a garden! That is why libraries call it "weeding" when they go through the process of pulling books from their collections.

I, too, like having unread books on my shelves. You see so many people aiming to bring their physical TBR to 0, but the thought of having nothing new to read in my own home is frightening. 😂 I rather think making sure to curate my collection/TBR is the way to go to beat overconsumption.

I love the Analogy of weeding a garden. Just found you so hi and can I say I think this is a great conversation in a world where we are continually encouraged to consume with no thought . I view the thrift store as a magical partner in my reading world, offering me up the treasures I need and that makes it feel so magical to me. Rather than feeling sad I can’t afford all the new releases I’m on some magical adventure ❤
