A very important note: Projects like this are almost never done alone. I owe a big thanks to Ben Komets for the feedback and coaching I received through his Patreon. His insights along with the support and feedback from my friends Nikolas Mortensen and Tue Kaae helped shape this project into what you see in the video!

Congrats on the pin. It was a tough competition this year. I heard the judges stayed up till 3am to finish judging.

Congrats on the recognition and thank you for sharing all of your struggles. It humanizes this art and reveals why we keep trying over and over to create.

This video just happened to pop up on my feed. As someone who is relatively new to painting (3.5 years) and planning my first GD project, I really appreciate this perspective. I may never win anything, but I’ve enjoyed this hobby so much, I view it as something to strive for to make me a better painter. If it’s my first and last GD entry, I’m sure I’ll carry the lessons on into all my future projects. This video was a wonderful reminder.

I jumped into the miniature hobby about seven years ago. I used to try and get paint on things as quickly as possible in acrylic, simply so I could rush into the next project, and then the next, and then next. This resulted in a lot of mediocre paint jobs and a perpetual "pile of shame".
I started oil painting on miniatures about two months ago. I had quit oil on canvas 20+ years ago and returning to it felt like coming home for the first time in decades. Now, moving into a strange midlife period, I've rediscovered art and creativity as a vital support system for my well being, and have grown to understand that to really grow in and through the craft, I need to let go of time and savor the "dance" with color and brush. While learning from your broad skill set has been invaluable, sharing your thoughts and mindset in your videos also helps me to maintain a healthy perspective and remember that every sitting is a chance to progress as an artist. I feel that envy should be replaced by curiosity, and serve as an opportunity for growth from an expanded understanding of the craft. Solid work man. Enjoying the channel. Best wishes.

Congrats to you!!! Love your model!!! I want to paint my team of Haflings just to play Blood Bowl though!!!

In March 2025, I attended my first Golden Demon in the Horus Heresy category. I have built a Blood Angels Spartan Tank on a base with ruins and debris all over the place. It was built like I build any armour models with pigments and pastel powder, and all the weathering techniques that you find in an armour model show. It didn't win anything. But I was happy just to bring my model to the show!!! For me, I was just happy to have finished my model and discovered all those new techniques. By attending the show, I was able to see and admire a lot of models. It was a really nice experience, and I was so excited to come back home and start a new project.

This process is a personal experience, and for me, it always gives me new ideas and shows me how far I can push myself to build and paint better models. If I may win something in the future, it will be a bonus and a good recognition of my efforts, but it is not necessary at all!!! The journey is in the hobby itself!!! Enjoy the ride and have fun!!! 😊
