בודהיזם, ניו אייג' ויהדות: מה הרב אלחנן ניר למד בדרמסאלה על החיפוש הישראלי אחרי אלוהים? | לסוכות

Special for Sukkot: Why did Rabbi Elchanan Nir recently go on a mission with his family to India, and what did he learn about Israeli society there? Why do thousands of young Israelis who return from India feel that something there has rekindled their souls and faith? Why did the 'India phenomenon' return in a big way after October 7? What do the discharged soldiers find there after hundreds of days of fighting on the front lines? And how does this relate to the "eastern point" of the Sukkot holiday? In a special episode of "The Spirit of Time," I had the privilege of hosting Rabbi Elchanan for a fascinating conversation about the journey he made from the "Mercaz HaRav" yeshiva to the expanses of northern India: about the surprising encounter with the teachings of the East - Buddhism and Hinduism, about the connection between New Age and the world of Hasidism and Kabbalah, and about the big questions that concern Israeli society around roots, spirituality, non-judgment, and the search for God outside the known and fortified walls. Rabbi Elchanan Nir is the rabbi of the 'Mekesh' community in Jerusalem, the rabbi of the 'Sheach Yitzchak' yeshiva, editor of the 'Shabbat' supplement of Makor Rishon, a writer and poet; in his book "From India to Here" Rabbi Elchanan wrote about the fascinating encounter between young Israelis and the cultures and religions of the East - and in his new book "Now We Need a New Torah", he offers a courageous call for the renewal of the face of the spirit and faith from the Israeli rupture of October 7.
