We often paint executioners as soulless instruments of cruelty, but how convenient it is to ignore the society that demanded their services. Justice in the Renaissance wasn’t blind — it was theatrical, public, and soaked in fear. The executioner was both tool and scapegoat, forced to perfect the art of killing so others could feel righteous watching it. Maybe the real horror isn’t the man with the axe, but the crowd that cheered.

2:52am, southwest UK.<br><br>I feel a profound sympathy for the executioners of history. Before now I had only thoughts for the modern versions of them. When I started the video I realised how little I knew about it.<br><br>I’m surprised that they were so isolated.
