I’m curious about this one.

In the UK, a drink after work or at lunch can feel completely normal — but in the US it’s often seen very differently.

Do you think Britain has a healthier relationship with alcohol, or is it just a different kind of culture around it?

Would love to hear from both Brits and Americans on this one. And if you enjoy these kinds of UK vs US cultural observations, consider subscribing to The Hickson Diaries.

The benefit of jumping a queue is that you get served a few minutes before everyone else. The downside is that everyone else will know that you're an arsehole. And some will point it out to you.

I think a beer or a glass of wine with your lunch is pretty normal right across Europe. The USA is strangely Puritan about alcohol - no public drinking, no opened alcohol in vehicles, restrictions on grocery stores selling alcohol, "dry" counties, min. age 21 etc.
I think if prohibitions regarding firearms and alcohol were swapped, the USA would be a better place.

Hearing you appreciate your life in the UK and the things you notice giving you pleasure makes me appreciate my life here more rather than taking it all for granted. So thank you😊

I don't know how far north you've travelled, but Luv is a perfectly normal form of address, especially in Yorkshire.
After escaping from London, I went into a shop and was greeted with,"Yes luv?" So comforting to be back home in god's own county.

If you're not paying attention in a British queue that usually results in somebody else pointing out the large gap or a spare service point

In the USA it is seen as wrong to have a drink at lunch time, but it is not seen as wrong to have one, or even more than one, firearms. Guess which country I prefer.

In culture terms, the US isn't out of nappies yet, 250 years, the UK has been at it for thousands of years. My house is older than the US, 350 years old.
