I was a young, impressionable 9yo kid in the 4th grade when 'Tom Sawyer' started getting some airplay in 1981/82.  I recall I heard it in between Joan Jett's 'I Love Rock and Roll,' ACDC's 'Back in Black,' and Olivia Newton John's 'Physical,' among other things.  Imagine tuning into the opening synth growl of 'Tom Sawyer' as a kid.  It was just other-worldly, and like nothing I'd ever heard.  I was completely mesmerized.  In the days before the internet, I searched for the artist 'Tom Sawyer' and the song 'Rush,' to no avail, not knowing I had it backwards.  It seemed no one had even heard of them back then, but by High School I had devoured their entire back catalog, which was everything up to Power Windows at the time.  It was at that point I became a lifelong fan.  There was no turning back..

Rush’s album covers have been a source of wonder for me all my life.  My brother, who is eight years my senior and is 100% responsible for introducing me to Rush at a very young age, would always take time to explain to me or discuss with me the meanings behind the imagery.  Whenever I see one of their covers, not only does it fill me with fond memories of the first time seeing it, but I can immediately hear the songs inside just by looking at it.  When I was growing up, I’d frequently listen to one of their albums while poring over the minute details of the cover.  Over the years, I’ve realized that sometimes we didn’t have the whole story, or all the background just right, but I see that as less important than what it meant to us, and the time we spent together listening to the music.  Thanks for posting this- I really enjoyed it!

Can we talk about how awesome Rush and Hugh Syme are? It's almost seven years to the day that I bought the most expensive book that I own to date, and Hugh Syme kindly signed it.                             The Art of Rush went on PreSale March 27, 2015. A book that chronicles each album cover. What  great music are held within those covers!!! This was done so well, bravo!!! RUSH ON EH!!!

My favorite cover by far was Grace Under Pressure.  I spent over a week drawing it in high school.  My mom told me that it looked almost like the album cover.  Mine was just in pencil but I was so proud of it.

"Subdivisions" is the anthem of many an Introvert/HSP/Empath.

Whenever I see Queens Park on the news, I'm reminded of this album, the one that gave us their timeless classic Limelight, which is my favourite Rush song because of how Neil's lyrics beautifully describe not just the challenges that we introverts face in a society that idealizes extroverts, but the special gifts that we have to offer, if only they could stop talking long enough to listen to us.
