My older sister works at a Top Tier University ... At her Christmas Party I had a chance to talk to an admissions officer of that University ..... Here's the gist of it.... Yes it's absolutely correct how they go through thousands of applicants very quickly , however they have like a sixth sense when they scan through the applicants .... Besides the given High GPA, test scores , APs, class rank., awards and Scholarships...They will scan very quickly how cohessive the extracurriculars are , their ability to know the general profile of the student's portfolio, and essays...They can spot detect "cookie cutter Letters of Recommendations and Student Essays ....The "Spike" is extremely important ....The more Niche the better ....Theyre always looking for the extraordinary ....Think of all the Talent Shows what these Judges look for and you'll get the general Idea

A small suggestion, for these longer videos I recommend clearly labeling the different parts and provide timestamps. It helps viewers know right away what topics are covered and gives them quick access. Thank you for the video and insight!

It looked like in the second half of the video you really emphasized recommendation letters. Just super emphasized their importance. Do you think super good recommendation letter can be a game changer for average application.

I have color-grapheme synesthesia and I am a member of the American Synesthesia Association. Being neurodiverse has of course shaped my life experiences. Once ashamed and feeling like I was different in a bad way, I came to learn I am not alone, and now understand this trait makes me uniquely me. Would this be a topic to mention in a supplemental essay? It’s generally not something I share about myself so I’m hesitant to talk about it. I have only ever shared this about myself with 1 teacher, and he was curious in the most interesting way which made me feel comfortable to reveal myself. what are your thoughts?

My son’s school offers many AP classes, but it’s impossible to fit them all into a typical schedule—especially when taking performance arts classes. There are scheduling conflicts that are simply impossible to resolve, and it feels like the school doesn’t care. Coming from Europe, this system makes no sense to me. I should also mention that my son’s school doesn’t allow students to take AP classes during the summer, as some schools do. It feels like he’s losing this unfair game, even though he packs as many AP classes as his schedule allows. <br>Thank you so much for the information you provide! It’s been very helpful to me ,as I try to understand the US system.

What should I do if my school doesn't have an admissions officer? Very few schools in my country do, and I attend a very ordinary public school that doesn't offer IB or AP programs. No one there seems to care about scholarships or studying abroad. I don't have any letters of recommendation because none of my teachers know anything about them; they don't even know what they are. I'm from an Arab country and I want to study in America.

Seems like the applicant needs an advocate in the process, someone who is willing to sell the applicant to the remainder of the admissions committee. How an applicant convinces someone in the process to assume this role is subjective.

Yes, I have a very important question on my mind: aside from the additional comments section is there another way/section to explain my circumstances that affected my ECs and GPA. Thanks in advance.
