  This was a blast of almost just unimaginable size.<br><br>The owner of an out-of-service passenger ship moored nearby reported that his ship was rolled almost onto its side by the pressure wave, and the blast pressure ended up pushing every single metal panel on the side of the ship inwards in between the ship&apos;s structural ribs. &nbsp;The damage was so bad, the ship ended up capsizing during the overnight hours.<br><br>A tanker ship moored on the dock right next to the warehouse was literally blown out of the water, its mangled wreckage landing on a quay on the opposite side of the harbor.<br><br>Think about that. &nbsp;The force required to launch AN ENTIRE SHIP airborne like this. &nbsp;Just staggering.<br><br>The luckier people lived in West Beirut - the towering grain silos ended up largely shielding their areas from the blast wave.

  Fun fact: after this explosion happened, a regional fertillizer plant I did work at as a contractor reassessed the risk their own plant presented. They had over four hundred times the AN in the Beirut explosion sitting in inventory... They wisely decided to find a way to split it up and to also reduce total inventory.
