As a Chinese, I never want to go to such crowded tourist attractions during holidays, so I never go to tourist attractions on public holidays.

I went to Zhangjiajie Park in Dec 2021 during covid - and it was completely EMPTY! We stayed in Wulingyuan and had to dine in the same restaurant for a week just because everything was closed. But the Park was MAGICAL! At some point it started snowing and it was absolutely unbelievable! So beautiful, peaceful and unique! It was one of the most memorable trips I've ever had!

I went there 2018 with two teenage children. We hiked 18km a day up and down the mountains. Stunningly beautiful. You made the mistake to visit at the wrong time and not to hire a private guide. Much more pleasant with a guide that knows how to avoid crowds, speaks chinese and takes you to hidden places. And very cheap in china anyways. Been to China many times now, but places like these you need a guide for better experience.

You guys should take the south gate into the park. There are less people. Walk along the stream and hike up to the Yuanjiajie. That's the best route. You'll see really beautiful peaceful scenery along the way. Trust me, I'm from Zhangjiajie.

If you go to any scenic spot during the National Day holiday, the situation will be worse than what you are in Zhangjiajie now 😅

we went last April to Zhangzajije. The first sunny day after a long period of only rain. We always do and buy last minute and there were no tickets availlable for the national park that weekend. they were sold out. so we received a tip to go as early as possible and buy tickets at the entrance. So we did. We slept in an appartment which was a 10 minute walk from the entrance. Went to a ticket machine at 06.15am, we manage to get 2 tickets and were one of the first people there. Waited till they opened the gate, took the bus to bailong elevater and avantar mountains without any queues and no need to wait in line. no masses of people. At around 0900-1000 it began to get verybusy but then we had already done all the famous things. I would highly recommand everyone to go as early as possible to skip queues.

As a native of Zhangjiajie, I really hope that the government can take measurements to improve tourists' travel experience. Currently, international tourists may face many problems when travelling in Zhangjiajie, such as the language barrier and payment system problems (Visa and Mastercard). Hope that there will be more and more international tourists in the future.

You can return the powerbanks to any station as long as it's from the same company. You're charged by the hour and if you don't return it, you'll be charged 99RMB. So basically you can "purchase" the powerbank for 99

I visited the park in the mid of March 2024. It was absolutely amazing. A must go place in my opinion.
For the visitors who still would like to go, here are some suggestions based on my trip. The park opens quite early around 7:30. That is the time you should be at the line waiting. Your tickets covers 4 days entrances of the park. If you trying to crash everything in a day. It would be definitely way too rush and disappointed. Also, you give up the remaining 3 days of the entrance fees since it was charged all together. I suggest at least 3 days of the stay just for the park alone.

Wow, I’ve been there, and my experience was completely different from what’s being described! With proper planning and an open mind, you’ll find that there are so many incredible things to see and do. The park itself is absolutely stunning and beautifully maintained, and the people are genuinely kind and welcoming. It’s always best to do a bit of research before visiting a place, Chinese people are truly wonderful and exceptionally respectful.

Oh wow guys! I understand how you feel so much. I went to Zhangjiajie a couple of weeks ago and felt so oppressed by the crowd, even though there were way fewer people than in your video. I felt the exact same way in the cable car—finally, a bit of peace! That said, seeing your video makes me realize how lucky I actually was, because we managed to finish the whole route and even had some quiet moments. But in the 'highlight' areas, it was absolute madness! I totally get how disappointing the experience can be, even if the landscape is magnificent. I really like that you show your true feelings instead of trying to say everything is just great.
