One of the many things I love about this serial is its structure. It was way ahead of its time.<br><br> Although released in the 1950s it is just like a modern day video game. There are "power ups" that punctuate the narrative. Throughout a video game there are treasure chests or glittering objects, etc. the characters must earn by completing a difficult challenge. This serial has its own version of power-ups, too.<br><br>In this movie we see literal wooden chests that are found after fist fights. Each box contains things like weapons, or food or needed tools. These are power ups. <br><br>For example, the characters are dying of thirst. After winning a fight with henchmen armed with lightning bolt spears the characters are rewarded with a pond of water to drink. <br><br>Just like a video game!

What an unusual twist to the remake, but the actors in this version had a heck of a lot more running to do!

Interesting movie, with a cast of characters (aliens, volcano men, pirates and Union prisoners) and one bearded man no one could really trust. Fun to watch despite being a little ridiculous at times.

Finally, a version exactly true to the original Jules Verne novel, complete with people from the planet Mercury, volcano men, whatever.

i've never seen so many fist-fights, rumbles and melees in one movie. P.S. it was a serial with 15 episodes, that's why it's so freakin long
