I've lived in LA my whole life. The majority of homeless in Santa Monica an Venice beach are not from the area. They are already vagabonds that travelled to the area attracted to the weather. It is erroneous to suggest that the cost of living has driven residents here to homelessness.

I grew up in SM and Venice I grew up at the boys club, with Charlie,Emilio, Sean,RD Jr, use to skate 10 miles a day, lived on 3rd and Ocean Park our rent me and mom was $320a month. For a 2 bedroom apt. I worked at Luckys now it's Gelson's. Would wake up have lunch, put on skates and have a wonderful day, may everyday you thrive on peace love and happiness. I did way back when

Been homeless for 16 years. Came to Venice and saved up for a van. Now I work in Santa Monica and sell art in Venice. At least I don't freeze.

I flew B-757's into LAX and would lay over up the hill from Santa Monica pier and ate at a great Mexican food restaurant a block from the hotel. I'm glad I'm retired. Thanks, Gavin.

There's no housing "crisis" or homeless problem. Housing is cheap in areas where there are no beaches, mountains or majestic vistas. These homeless folks would rather crowd around in places where they've been outbid, and complain there's no place for them. If you can't afford to live at the beach, go live in the city. If you can't afford to live inn the city, go live in the country. I live in a county that's bigger than Denmark, that has fewer than 100,000 residents. Every purportedly homeless person in America could have an acre of land here, and "so have freedom in his love, and in his soul be free" to quote Thoreau.

Wait until the gap between the rich and the poor in Santa Monica reaches the point where 90% of the residents live in poverty. Then it’s going to get interesting.
