This is a trip down memory lane. Lazzeronis were plastered all over G&A in the 90’s. I was shooting moly coated factory federal loads in .223 that popped primers and was driving a 1994 F150.

You guys should do a video on the A-Square cartridges and have Ryan bring in his 338-06.

I have a custom built Lazzeroni 308 Warbird by Callum Ferguson Precision Rifle Services Scotland. Built on a Nesika Super Magnum action with Kreiger cryogenically treated barrel 27” and wild cat moderator. Its loadings are 150 Nosler BT @ 3750 and 200 Accubond @ 3316. Not full throttle. It’s an extremely accurate rifle and very flat shooting. Its shot everything from our diminutive roe deer to large African plains game. He also built me a single shot 7mm Firebird and 338 Titan but I wasn’t impressed by the Lazzeroni case quality of the latter so sold it and went with several Lapua 338 and REM 338 UM. The Warbird is an exceptional cartridge but I’m 81 past now and just not getting about the same or opportunities

I'd love to hear more about Ackley improved cartridges. Weatherby and Ackley frequently debated different theories they had, and it would be neat to learn more about that particular bit of firearms history. Is anybody else also curious to hear more about the two?

I have a friend that bought a used Lazz in 7.82 Warbird with the Sako action a couple of years ago. He got some ammo in the deal and bought some more brass cases. The thing is a cannon. Told him I would reload the cases for him if he could come up with dies and shell holder, but no luck on finding dies. I printed reloading data and my eyes almost popped out at the numbers. The issue is ammo is incredibly expensive and my opinion is one day my friend will have a dinosaur with no ammo.

The first short magnums were built in the 50's based on the 348 Winchester case with the rim turned off and extractor grooves cut in. Lazzeroni himself said his case was not based on any other case and that if he knew of the 404 Jeffery he would have used it instead of going to the time and great expense of paying for the tooling to produce a proprietary case. But not being a "gun guy" he was unaware of the 404 Jeffery and he used a lot of time and money reinventing something that was way more available at a cheaper cost. In the end if he would have known of/used the Jeffery case ammo/brass cost could have been a lot less and this would have potentially increased sales greatly.

What killed Lazzaroni was 3 things.

1. Lapua size bolt face .588
2. Kept it proprietary ( stupid )
3. Dialed scopes and range finders

Same thing happened to Kenny Jarret ( bean field ) rifles with “300 Jarret”

Since it came up in this podcast, and also since I've been a fan of Robert Ruark since I was a kid, I'd love to see a show on the .416 Rigby.
