  My great-grandfather was a german Uboat Radio Operator in the Baltic Sea towards the end of the war. He told me that to his luck, his Commander tried his best to avoid engagements since the war was clearly lost. I&apos;m very lucky to have met him when I was a child and to hear first-hand accounts of the war.

  Hard to believe a 2nd U-boat would send up a flare before sending a torpedo at a target.<br>The 2nd sub story was to coverup that the destroyer sank itself by unecessarly raming a defenseless surfaced U-Boat ,rather than sink it with 4 inch guns from a safe distance.

  I like how movies like greyhound make the uboat crew seem like cold killers when they are actualy as scared as the boat crew just trying to sink and run

  You forgot the best part! When the USS Borie was on top of the German sub, Hutchins made an announcement to crew saying DO NOT BOARD THE ENEMY VESSEL, guy knows his men.

  Hmmm, I&apos;d say they intentionally rammed the rafts, and later claimed it was to avoid a random incoming torpedo. War, heat of the moment kind of thing. The military has a great talent for covering things like this up.

  Brave men fighting for what they understood to be right. So many parents, &nbsp;siblings, wives, and children had lost these men. War is hell.

  I read a book called Lost at sea, it talked about how friendly the German&apos;s were to their POWs, treated them well with respect, like nearly friends, as opposed to the Japanese... &nbsp;Its also because they knew if they were captured by the US or UK they would hope for the same treatment in return

  I so love that they got the &nbsp;details right in their depiction of USS Borie. The video depicts Borie as a &quot;four stack&quot; destroyer of WW 1 vintage. She actually was, having been completed and launched in 1919. And the U-boat they showed was actually a Type VII. Kudos for accuracy. Someone did their homework!!
