War Thunder player here. You are correct. Our player base is extremely toxic

You have it in simulator too where people keep telling others to "go to arcade" when they make any minute mistake, like for when I shot a Sherman that was looking at me from the enemy's side but turned out to be a Italian Sherman (not historical for it to be on Axis' side btw) the guy spammed for 10min straight in chat for me to leave and play arcade like holy shit this community is filled with insecure weirdos 😭

im with ya on the learning curve of the game, but i find that mostly these days i see bored veteran players being dickheads to low level players. last week i was teaching a new player i found while playing low-tier Italy since it was a nation i hadn't played yet. as I'm typing and showing him some good ways to get RP as a free to play player, we started noticing fully bushed up premiums flanking our spawns early in the match to the point nobody could do anything to counter it.

like come on, youve got 4 or 5 YEARS on these new players, and the best you can do to have fun is load into a tank that's fully loaded in crew and researched modules, bush it up, and then flank around to the spawnpoint 2 mins in just to shoot players who haven't learned yet to use binoculars or angle properly. and on the off chance you do kill them? here comes a Yak9 to CAS the spawn instead.

makes you wonder how many new players want to try the game, but said "nah, this isnt for me" after less than an hour because they had 3 or 5 games in a row of not being able to move from spawn

I’m a former WT player that played the game since 2014 and trust me you’re not the first person to make a video like this. Spookston made a video about WT’s toxicity since 2021 where it really peaked. I stopped interacting with the community since 2023 due to how toxic it has become and stopped playing after Nuclear Thunder to focus on being a teacher.

Watching the community become so toxic since 2014 is like watching someone you know go through cancer. It’s heart breaking, you hope that things will get better and sometimes you just want to put them out of their misery. As much as I want to see the game and the community get better I realize that only divine intervention can save this game and it’s community and it is only downhill from hear.

arcade mode is fun if you wanna play a more arcade oriented game mode where stakes feel lower and it feels more casual, RB is more fun imo for me personally, but it is fun every now and then zoomin around in arcade with a dumb tank doing things that you cant get away with in rb, however tactics are completely different between the modes, like if youre great at rb you could easily suck at arcade, and vice versa, arcade is faster, more about reflex and positioning, and armor is actually a larger advantage, in rb less armor tends to be better cause flanking is much more viable, a good flank in rb could let you rake in 6-7 kills rapidly, but in arcade youd struggle to get 3 because your position is broadcasted. at times it almost feels like an entirely different game.
side note, i like tank rb mainly for the air support settings, no names, no tags, just use your eyes, and airrb is just less realistic. tankrb & air arcade, best modes imo, air rb is super sweaty and like i wanna spend 10 minutes queing then 8 minutes taking off and getting into the middle of the map, then return to hangar after some bastard falls from the stratosphere ontop of my useless ass and takes me down before i realize im being shot at, too slow. boat rb is great too, used to be better when it was gunboats only on low tier, low tier battleships fuckin dominate so after 5 minutes theres no point spawning a gunboat cause youll just get camped by a battleship 12km away. and gunboat spawns are just so unprotected half the maps if you know where youre shooting you can start getting gunboat kills with destroyers within 40 seconds of the round starting.
but yeah rant about boats over, huge elitist problem with tankrb players and air rb players. totally agree, loved the reference to leaking military secrets, WT holds the record for that shit

In my experience the toxicity is hyper concentrated into a few particular areas, those being the arcade vs realistic vs sim elitists on all sides and the highly compressed brackets, often when a vehicle or nation is receiving too much 'love'.

Im an air rb main but lost interest in 13.0+ due to both the nature of BVR combat and the wallet warriors in their undertiered premiums and the ensuing hostilities due to the intentional imbalance.
Otherwise below 13.0 i find most to be quite chatty with a bit of banter as we climb, prepare for the fight and often quite good sports on both teams. (Excluding the guys that just camp their airfield the whole game, we all hate them)

The most important thing that I've learned as someone who has played both games is that:

War thundder sacrifices fun for realism (it's not)
WoT sacrifices realism for fun (it's not)

Edit: 2:30, a lot of these things are present in war thunder, they are just hidden. Gun dispersion is still pretty big on some cannons. In WoT every tank has a stabilizer, but it's stilla really bad idea to shoot on the move because of the dispersion that inscreases with your speed. In war thunder your tank just wobbles while driving so it's also a really bad idea to shoot on the move if you don't have a stabilizer.

Tanks in war thunder are also invisible untill you spot them. Just remember about all the times when you hear an engine of a tank only when it's 15 meters away from you. This system was probably intended to help against cheaters, but it just does not work properly, and I'd much rather prefer spotting a tank only close up instead of seeing a ssentient bush from 800 meters away

I left war thunder a couple years ago for a couple reasons
1: the game felt too repetitive
2: ground for me just wasn’t fun at all (I pretty much only played air)
3: I really hated what gaijin was doing with the game
4: worst playerbase OAT

Crazy I played sims on BOS and early WT. Went AB back in the day and stayed because that’s where all my friends would come in.

Even AB WT is still more realistic than most other games that aren’t flat out sims.

But the irony is how unrealistic RB is in all 3 of its modes:

1. Ground RB…complete trash nonsense. Tanks don’t “sneak” in real life. Nor can one fire its main gun and hide. AB on screen helpers pretty much act as the real life training and where with all.

2. Tanks didn’t shoot for “weak spots”. Sure a Sherman would flank a Tiger from behind if possible. But acting like they’re trying to accurately fire a 76 mm down the machine gunner port was a real strategy is nonsense.

3. the minimap and spotting is the real life equivalent of modern surveillance systems that have been in existence since the 80s. Furthermore a completely blank map like RB and SB, is more like the French army of WW2 than other forces.

Even IL-2 full sim will tell you the vague area someone was spotted to act like your pilot or tanker marked their map.

4. All the tank sights are trash. We had to fight for the auto adjusting range finder/cannon elevation. Real tanks have sights specific to their gun so long range firing is a little more self explanatory.

5. Reflector sights forward, gunners, SPAA….they by default have ways to adjust for deflection in their gun already as such the game should represent that.

6. Most CAS or tank dominance in RB can’t be replicated in AB because of being spotted or the other side having the ability to aim.

6. RB naval benefits from weak CAS and honestly most sea battles are in open ocean.

7. RB actively fights the game trying to simulate a full crew of men, targeting computers, rangefinders, etc so they can claim the “skill” of elevation adjustment. Even the shell fall indicators while silly are closer to the reality of shell dyes than what RB is now.

Etc etc

So yeah I tend to agree

They’re guys who act like playing RB = sim = actually having done it

Gotta agree with this. I still play war thunder and I even work on mods for the game as well. The real problem is the veteran players playing low tier and ruining the fun for new players. Good example was some M8 Greyhound player messing it up for a new player I was playing with. Dude was sweating and spawn camping just messing it up. The guy had more fun with arcade because new players tend to stay there. Though he'd get smack talk because of these types of players. I do wish Gaijin started doing more for new players for a change. Maybe increase the rewards for playing Arcade too because trying to get some new guy or even a guy coming from world of tanks into war thunder is meh. They either really get into it or fully ditch the game which I understand
