I didn`t know that I was considered the top Machinist at a DOE weapons plant until I quit, actually retiring early at 53, until sometime after, two different Engineers told me. I had done work for the Senior R&D Engineer many times on prototypes that one Engineer told me had saved hundreds of jobs at the plant. That was the only time in 27 years that anyone had told me that my work mattered. I quit because I was financially well off, owed nothing, had invested well, and a single General Supervisor with a "Big Boy" complex who continually harassed me for no visible reason other than I was not afraid of his authority and he knew I did not respect him, even though I did all the work that was required of me.

My spouse was a field service engineer in electronics. GE downsized him because of age (58 yo and 8 yrs before 20 yrs service). It cost them millions in sales. It cost them hiring him as an independent contractor because the customers that would keep their equipment wouldn't unless they hired him to keep it running.

I had a situation that was similar in a different way. But it happened about 40 years ago when life was entirely different. Good job on rising above the treatment you received. I truly believe in honesty, integrity, determination, consistency and kindness, that's how I worked. You've reinforced my beliefs those qualities are still important today.
