This is a highly glamorized version of what life was like in early 40s America. Most people were still suffering the effects of the Great Depression and barely scraping by. It wasn't until the mid 40s when the war industry brought good paying jobs to almost everyone that things started to take an upturn. I've heard firsthand from my grandparents how life was for your average Joe before the war and it wasn't spoken of very fondly.

This is great. A good complement to ABC's 15-part "The Century" presented by Peter Jennings. A fine overview of popular culture. Having this kind of history available at the touch of a computer key is amazing.
