Always funny to hear about how much japanese avoid waste, when most stuff is single use and wrapped in one or two layers of plastic, or employ people to stand around somewhere.

In izakayas, you don't order per person; you order several small dishes for everyone so that everyone is satisfied. In reality, though, that's essentially the same as ordering per person. In good restaurants with set menus, you always order per person. Not everything you read here is true. Water and tea are almost always free, so you don't need to bring your own. Wearing little perfume and speaking quietly is considered polite in good restaurants. In izakayas, you can talk louder, and the rules are somewhat relaxed.

And don't ask for even slight variations to your order. They will spend more time and energy than the work would take telling you that they can't do that.

In Italy actually eating or drinking your own stuff is forbidden because of food safety laws. So similar 😂

In a cafe/dessert it can be one drink (tea, coffee) + one dessert (cake, pudding, ice cream ) per person. As it will took a while for a group of customer on a table.
