There's one double lp that is rarely mentioned anywhere: Can's Tago Mago from 1971. It's also their best album full stop, I think. They really pulled all the stops with that one. None of the other bands from Germany at that time could even touch them, as far as I'm concerned. Can were in a division of their own. Czukay's and Schmidt's classical contemporary background coupled with Karoli's and Suzuki's allmost naive melodic sense made for something unique. And then, there was that absolute monster, Jaki Liebezeit on drums...

I’m really happy and proud that you’ve included Focus III on this list, and agree with all that you said about it and the band. Masterpiece.

"Stevie Wonder could have done it with his eyes shut". One of your best moments Andy. Brilliant.

Pretty good list with most of my choices in it. Great to see Focus on there. If Jan Akkerman had been English or American he would be mentioned in the same breath as Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck and Blackmore, because he was as good as any of them. Only omissions for me would be Elton's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road which I could see top 3 and Todd Rundgen's Something/Anything?

Wow! Shocked to see Focus III on this list!! I discovered Focus (Via Hocus Pocus, of course) in 1978 and bought 5 of their albums in the cut-out bin for about $6. It's all I listened to for a month. I told all my friends about this amazing band, no one was interested. Focus is a huge heart felt band for me. A secret pleasure for 45 years.

As you said, Jimi was working on a new album, which shows up in bits and pieces on some very posthumous exploitive albums. Eddie Cramer (his longtime engineer) tries to interpret what jimi was trying to do for his next album.. The end result is FIRST RAYS OF THE NEW RISING SUN, which I have not heard you mention. This is the best posthumous Hendrix album. If you haven't heard it, I strongly recommend you listen to it.

What pulls all this together? It's the Funk!!! You are so right, Andy

Can’t agree more about Focus’ & Jan Akkerman’s greatness. Electric Ladyland is a complex masterpiece and Hendrix’s use of the studio itself is phenomenal
