  Further history: when the American frontier was still, you know, a frontier, there weren&apos;t a ton of doctors/regulations, so people of all types would flee West to start a new life with a new identity. Among them were several documented trans men outed only at autopsy, at least one of whom was married with an adopted son upon his death and was publicly mourned as a man because, as one neighbor told the local paper, he&apos;d been a fine, upstanding man, and they would honor that.<br><br>That&apos;s right: there were trans cowboys in the late 1800s and early 1900s.   I actually told my therapist: &quot;I&apos;m sure that a few sessions from now you&apos;re gonna tell me I&apos;m either trans or non-binary&quot;. She talked about how she was a professional and wouldn&apos;t chalk everything up to gender identity issues and all that. She told me that she was 100% sure I&apos;m non-binary six sessions later. I wasn&apos;t making fun of her, it was just foresight

  I once described dysphoria like &quot;wearing a sweatshirt that is definitely not yours from the lost and found.&quot; <br>It&apos;s the wrong size, it&apos;s itchy, it smells funny, there&apos;s a weird stain on it, and you can&apos;t take it off even though it&apos;s too hot.

  Whenever I meet a transfem person, I always mention that I use “dude” and “bro” a lot and ask them if they’d like me to refrain from using those words with them. Communication is key to healthy friendships and other types of relationships!
