This has been an exceptional episode. As brilliant as AWG is, I would argue that the silicon valley folks can be a bit out of touch even with the American public right now, and Alvin is doing a good job bringing a more balanced viewpoint. Anyone familiar with the prevailing sentiment in China can tell that he's being truthful and not a "CCP mouthpiece" as some people in the comments suggest. Whether or not his thesis holds water is a different story, but I believe that he is sincere and there is a general arrogance in certain tech circles in America that may prove to be more detrimental than one would expect.

Much respect, Alvin. But as the saying goes, you can't wake someone who is pretending to be asleep

I really enjoy Moonshots and have a lot of respect for the whole team, so I mean this as constructive criticism.

At times, Alex and Dave especially and to a lesser extent Peter seem rather reflexively negative about China, while Europe is sometimes treated a little too dismissively. On both China and Europe, I occasionally get the impression that the discussion relies more on broad assumptions than on a deep understanding of what is actually happening on the ground.

That is why it was so refreshing to have Alvin Graylin in this conversation. He brings a much broader horizon, real experience in both the US and China, and a more nuanced way of thinking about technological competition, cooperation, culture, and geopolitics.

I love the Moonshots team and will certainly keep watching, but I would really welcome more voices like Graylin’s when discussing China and Europe. These subjects are too important and too complex to reduce to stereotypes or simple winner-versus-loser narratives.

Thank you so much for hosting voices from outside the Silicon Valley scene. Truly important that we are hearing this range of perspectives as we navigate the wild times ahead!

This is exactly Salim’s main thesis. It’s not about technology. It’s about the redesign of the organization.
