Pretty wild that Greg Van Avermaet didn't remove his bags to get the KOM. Respect.

Aaaaand now I miss GCN+ all over again. Shout out to the camera people who knew they lost a job and continued on. And Conor "this is the most stuff I've ever had on my bike" Dunne who now considers this normal.

I took a trip to New Zealand to visit a friend back in 2006. What a spectacular place. I just decided one day I would do a bike packing trip so I could experience NZ close up. I hadn't been on a bike for years, had no experience of bike packing, no bike or kit. So I went and found the cheapest bike I could find at $200 NZ dollars, about £67 at the time, I got a sleeping bag, a foil blanket as a ground sheet, a torch and a whistle. I had a rucksack with a built in 2L bladder, two football tops, 2 pair of footy shorts, 2 pair of socks, 2 pair of boxers and a pair of PRADA trainers. I took the train from Christchurch up to Picton then the ferry across to Wellington. I decided to do an email blog to my friends all over the world and called it The Cowboy Wears PRADA. I had no plan, no route, booked nowhere to stay, I just got on the bike and off I went on my multi day tour and it was the best experience I have ever had. I slept in backpacking lodges, on beaches in my sleeping bag, even at a bus stop one night. The best thing about it was my encounters with wildlife. Riding through the countryside with a herd of Deer running alongside me was incredible, they could not take their eyes off me. I took a few days off in Kaikoura and went swimming with a pod of wild Dolphins, the most wonderful surreal experience of my life. My friends absolutely loved the email blog they found all of my adventures absolutely hilarious. I thoroughly recommend it to anybody, we only get one life and it is a short one so go out and experience this wonderful planet we live on, I do!

Brilliant, so glad you could finally show the adventures. Loved the little dog companion on the final to the summit. Think he was thinking “what’s all the fuss about, I do this every day”!
