capsule wardrobes: when they're helpful and when they turn into more shopping

THANK YOU for bringing up “having fewer clothes is not morally superior”—I get irritated by some of the classism I see in minimalist or conscious consumption spaces, mainly because it’s all “not having a ton of clothes is very desirable…unless it’s because you’re poor”. I have a lot of thoughts about how so many aesthetic trappings of minimalism online overlap with just…being rich 😂 this video was great; thanks for making it.

Thank you for adding a gothic creator! That's what I've been wanting! To create a solid minimal wardrobe that actually fits my style. I appreciate you showing us content outside of the common content!

Having a capsule wardrobe helped me figure what I actually wear and what I like to wear. I now have 40 pieces (total across all seasons) that I enjoy. I knew that capsule wardrobes would turn into consumerism. Also the whole declutter and buy situation. Im only buying if I wear something to death. And not from fast fashion!❤

As a fashion lover, I do quirky, seasonal capsules of my favorite pieces i want to spotlight. It helps me make the most of whats in my closet and reduce decision fatigue when i have to get ready. Im less inclined to shop because my rotating capsules make everything feel "fresh".

Project 333 was absolutely horrible for my mental health. I suddenly felt guilty about all the things I own (which is honestly not that much when it comes to clothing). It's been over a year since I tried it and I'm still working through these feelings of "owning the clothing I already have is immoral". I've just tried to shift my mindset to "don't buy stuff I don't need".

I think capsule wardrobes can be helpful to some people for all the reasons you mentioned!

the most sustainable thing is not having less, it's using what you already have

For me personally the ideal weapon against boredom with my wardrobe is accessorizing. If I don't have strength to come up with cohesive outfit containing more complex pieces of clothing, I put on something basic and then accessorize without restraint. Like I just put on funky earrings, bracelet and tights w print and it takes everything on the whole another level.

My autistic ass is like spongebob so somehow i have accidentally done this because all I wear is T shirts and duplicates of the same few pants 😂 I just say "what color shirt do i wanna wear today" and that's about it (this isn't meant to be shade at anyone, I'm just laughing at MYSELF! Slay you guys, I love girly fashion styles on y'all and variety it's just not what I personally own)

I think some peoples don't realise they already have their capsule wardrobe inside their closet. If you have 300 everyday clothes but you only wear 30% of them then I would considere them your capsule wardrobes.
9:17 It's a good exercice. Another form of it could be imagining you have only a small suitcase/backpack to bring to vacation for 7 days (not counting the shoes, underwears and coat). It can help you think about which clothes you can combine to last this week.
I personnaly buy "mindfully". A top should go with at least 2 bottoms and a bottoms with at least 4 visible tops (not counting the under of layering)

I so agree with all of this. In order to reduce churn and burn, you really have to get to know yourself

I'm one of those ladies over 40 who has things over fifteen (sometimes over twenty) years old. I have my formula that works and I rarely get bored. (It's neutral bottoms, a solid color sleeveless or short-sleeved top, and a cool button-down unbuttoned.) I'm always rediscovering things I already own, and because I have always shopped with my formula in mind those rediscovered pieces go well with my newer stuff too. Plus bonus, fashion always comes back around. There are always little tweaks to "modernize" things, but when you bust out your peasant top from 1995, it seems like a new twist on the trend. I can't tell you how many times I've walked into a junior section and thought, "I remember those."

I love the concept of capsule warderobes when travelling. Also, it is very useful when considering what colour of an item to buy as it will determine what I will wear it with. But, I prefer thinking about my warderobe as as having colour themes rather rhan being different capsules.
