  I might be missing something but creating a UI through a series of function calls seems &nbsp;crazy and hard to read and reason about. The button example Scott gave was gnarly and it was just a button. Can’t imagine a real complex UI.

  GPUI is fantastic. The Zed editor itself is a testament to what you can do with it (which is a lot already). The downside is the &quot;bus factor&quot; IMO (for now, at least). I don&apos;t think it&apos;s popular enough that, should Zed Industries fail or pull a 180 on the licensing (recusing themselves from further public development), there&apos;d be enough hands ready to continue the open source effort. They already said that Zed is their priority and they&apos;re not accepting PRs or entertaining public feature requests that do not support that mission. It should also be said that Longbridge&apos;s gpui-kit (which looks awesome too) is the only big component library out there.

  Rust Dev here. I rewrote codex desktop with gpui. It uses 40mb of ram, runs on Windows, Linux, MacOS, and 120+fps<br><br>It&apos;s sick

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdJXHYuRr48&amp;t=785">13:05</a> gpui uses taffy to give them flex, and taffy also has grid, so there shouldn’t be any reason why you can’t use grid! in general, I have found gpui to be more and not less permissive. I have had my agents write custom shaders for all sorts of little things I want to do that I tried and failed to accomplish on web. grainy, textured gradients and shadows, for instance—I tried to make a little css houdini library that would do it and it just couldn’t stay performant and look good at the same time. with gpui, it was totally trivial and blazing fast. patching in css corner-shape, making a little glass shader with refraction and chromatic aberration that’s buttery smooth at 120fps…all that to say, I like Scott, have been having a blast with gpui!
