One of the greatest films ever made. The scene where Andy finally escapes and just stands there in the rain as a free man always gives me chills. A great example of never losing hope.

The shot of the warden discovering the tunnel, with the sheer disbelief on Red and Hadley's faces, has got to be one of the greatest shots ever captured in a movie.

Little detail I noticed: @<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdCFfRw27Jg&t=334">5:34</a>, the warden removes the vault cover without glancing back at Andy. Eariler in the film, before he gave Andy the remaining bit of pie. He glances back at him, obviously cautious of the felon. However, as the movie progresses, the warden becomes overly confident in his control of Andy, and it would cost him.

My favorite thing about this scene is how the first of Warden Norton's rules in Shawshank is no blasphemy. When Andy escapes, and gets the best of him, the first thing he does is say "Lord! It's a miracle!" which by all accounts is considered blasphemy when being used in a mocking tone. It shows how he hides behind religion to insinuate he is a good person, and how willing he is to throw away his principles should something affect <i>him.</i> It's another reason why I love this movie so much.

Man 1994 was an insane year for films, and The Shawshank Redemption not winning a single Oscar is proof of that. Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, The Lion King. What a year. The Shawshank Redemption is by far my favorite film out of them though, timeless classic.
