Her first audition was with an Aretha Franklin song, then she sings at her funeral 10 years later.

Her career is very much a example of “many are called but few are chosen...” but she’s called & chosen.

And this is why Aretha chose her as the actress to play her in her biopic...

This was one of the most unapologetically authentic black performances and possibly her best performance ever. What a powerhouse of a voice and with such an ease of control. And the audacity of her to pour all of that out onto us and then come back like you didn’t just THAT! 😳🤯 what a beautiful way to show respect and pay homage to another legend.

Not speaking about race, but when Black people sing to the Lord, they always go a level up! They are so truly in love! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰👏👏👏👏👏👏

Just to explain. When black folk sing on a funeral, it's about getting a tune to mourn onto. It's not supposed to be a perfect choral. It's a perfect cry.
