Just finished this and LOVED it. Grew up in Michigan, near the Grosse Pointes and East Detroit in the mid-80's and boy, did this bring me back to a lot of that. Thank you, Ann Patchett!

Coming to this a little late, but I missed Ann Patchett at the Sydney Writers Festival this week. I really enjoyed this session and the obvious knowledge of Miwa and Shannon. I've subscribed now, so there goes a few hours of indulgent listening.
🙂

"...We all have a blind spot, right? That bit of incorrect information from childhood that mysteriously never gets updated, the person who makes it to thirty-five believing that unicorns had been hunted into extinction.”
“Wait, unicorns weren’t hunted . . .”
He smiled at me, tipping his head to one side as if to say I was adorable, as in, I was to be adored.
Is " was adorable, as in I was to be adored " a play on words please?
Please paraphrase it.
