  Although taking both stone crab claws is allowed the general practice is to only take one claw.

  I worked at a place with a butterfly enclosure, spending hours sweating especially in there I would always have a few on my hat sucking at my sweat

  Re: the stone crabs and their claws: their claws are actually releasable as a defense mechanism -- if their claw is stuck or grabbed by a tougher predator, they can release it in a similar way as some lizards release their tail to escape predation. &nbsp;There are some species of crayfish (&quot;crawdads&quot;) that also do this. &nbsp;You can actually hold a stone crab up by one claw until it realizes it can&apos;t get its claw loose, and they&apos;ll just unlatch from it and drop free -- catch them with your off hand, repeat, and release them, and you&apos;ve got two claws. &nbsp;Frankly, it&apos;s kinder to just take one claw per crab and leave it with a working one, but they do grow back over time as Stephen said. &nbsp;You DO NOT pull the claws off, because if you do that, the crab will bleed out and die -- you have to let the crab release it, which it does at the natural point and which triggers processes to pinch off the joint and seal the blood vessels.

  In Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, the Catholic Church also granted permission to eat seal meat on Good Friday. Same logic, in &nbsp;respect to living in water.
