Sam, <br> The thing to remember about TIG welding is that it requires the welded surfaces to basically be spotless clean. After you do the area prep/sanding you have to clean it with acetone. Don't use something like carb or brake cleaner because of the chemicals used in them - they can produce dangerous fumes when hit with the heat of the torch. You also need to wipe the welding rod down to remove any surface contamination that would lead to porosity.
