It’s nice to hear that the previous conservator was competent, for a change.

"Here highlighted in blue." Thanks, Julian. Definitely would have missed that without the explanation.

I looked up Russell Hartley. He was quite the guy. Ballet Dancer. Painter. Gallery Owner. And founder of what is now the San Francisco Museum of Performance and Design.

Who else wonders how many paintings he has stored in that back room?

I hate it when people try to make unpleasantness or even suffering a competition. "Oh, what are you complaining about, Julian? You're in an air conditioned studio sitting down all day. Try being a roofer in the middle of summer. You have nothing to complain about." No. That's not how that works. Reality is subjective. Plus, everyone has their own brains that have their own tolerances. I hear this sometimes when I tell people I'm disabled because of my neurological condition. "Oh, boo hoo. There are people with no legs and paraplegics that still go to work every day. Suck it up and get over it, you big baby." Just because their reality allows them to work, that does not diminish my own situation. It's not a competition for who is in the most suffering. I am happy for those people that they've found a way to manage their conditions. I am not them and they are not me. And the people who are usually saying this have no idea what it's like for either of us. Walk a mile, bud. Walk a mile in my shoes and see if you still call me a cry baby. Try scraping a painting for weeks on end and see if you still judge Julian for not liking it. And even if they can't understand any of that, how about just having a little empathy? What happened to just being empathetic towards people? Ugh. Can you tell it triggers me? It triggers me. Lol.

I wonder how many of us have watched Julian long enough to be able to pretty much correctly guess (in a general sense) the steps he needed to take to get to the cleaning phase.

A genuine Titian in the studio is surely a once in a decade event

@29:21 Your sciencey part about the linseed oil polymerization was very cool. Please do more of that!

14:28 actually, the extra reinforcement provided by the mesh probably reduced the damage caused by the chair… imho
